What's the deal with fishermen and sunglasses????
June 19th 2007 00:20
Maybe a better question would be, "What's the deal with STATE TROOPERS and sunglasses?"
Making note to self--stay off of highway!
I won't even attempt to delve into the minds of law enforcement officials and stick with something I know about!
It's not that these guys have a "Top Gun" fetish or anything like that. Any fisherman(person) worth their salt is going to be wearing polarized lenses. Polarization means that the glass molecules are aligned to eliminate the reflection of light and, therefore, some of the glare.
The advantages of polarized lenses extend far beyond fishing. When is the last time you almost didn't see that kid step out because of glare on your windshield? If you're flying, don't you want your pilot to have a clear view of the runway??????
Although sunglasses are often thought of as a secondary item for the angler, their need can not be over stressed! Do you use sun block? What about your eyes? Those same harmful rays are burning your peepers! This is in addition to the eye strain or headaches caused by glare on the water.
Aside from making it easier to see fish, polarized lenses will make everything else easier, also. Maybe you'll see that rock or limb and not rip the bottom out of your boat. Or, maybe you'll avoid a potential snag and not lose that new lure.
All in all, it's not that you CAN'T fish without sunglasses. They just make everything easier!
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
