Wormproof tackle boxes

Fishing ought to be fairly simple--throw your bait into the water and pull out a fish. Fool proof. Right??? How 'bout wormproof? I'm not talking gastrointestinal distress! When it comes to fishing, "wormproof" refers to tackle boxes that are made so your soft plastic baits don't adhere themselves to the trays.
Maybe you're old enough to remember how it used to be. You'd be out on a sunny day, decide to try a plastic worm, and , invariably, that worm would be sticking to the tray in your tackle box! And, if it did come loose, it was so deformed you were ashamed to use it.
Without getting too far into the chemical process involved, it's enough to know the softeners in soft plastic baits ooze out as a result of the sun's heat and affect the plastic of the old tackle boxes. The result was an ooey-gooey mess as the plastics bonded together.
Such an occurrence seldom takes place these days but it must be noted that the plastics used in today's tackle boxes are softer than the plastics of old. This may sound like a bad thing but modern plastics used in tackle boxes are often more durable than the plastics of old. Gone are the days when you'd go out on a cold day, bump your tackle box, and end up with a big crack at the point of contact! The down side is that plastic tackle boxes don't make good stools like the metal ones did.
Life is full of trade offs!

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
