Fish take over mall

July 3rd 2014 00:49
No doubt you know someone who has a koi pond. And who among us has walked along the waterfront and spied a school of catfish so large the fish are practically rubbing fins? And who hasn't been to the mall in the past few weeks? Now, imagine all three of those scenarios combined and you get an idea of what happened at an abandoned mall in Bangkok, Thailand.

In an apocalyptic scene, fish were found living in a deserted mall in Bangkok, Thailand after it caught fire in 1999. That's right--1999. Evidently, the mall wasn't in a prime real estate area!

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!

Did William Shakespeare wet a line?

April 11th 2012 02:44
William Shakespeare
So, did Shakespeare fish? Most people have never thought about it but certain scholars have pondered the question for some time.

It has been noted that Shakespeare mentions fish or fishing 200 times in his works. Pike is alluded to in The Merry Wives of Windsor, tickling trout pops up in Twelfth Night, and carp are noted in Hamlet.

Dutch Pike

March 20th 2012 01:43
Although I'm usually not big on ice fishing or just watching guys fish, this video is interesting in one respect. It shows pike being taken through the ice in the Netherlands.

Just goes to show that all the pike in the world aren't in the Great Lakes!

Man survives at sea!

Here's a news story that absolutely blew me away!

While it's not a fishing story per se, it is about a fishing boat and the horror of sinking in the cold ocean.

Pro ideas on the Vibrax

October 31st 2011 01:57
Here's Canadian pro angler Italo Labignan in Israel talking about the Vibrax spinner. Vibrax are some of the best spinners around and deadly for trout.

Since the DNR did some stocking around here this month, this video caught my eye.

River Monsters Preview

March 27th 2011 01:45
This was on my YouTube channel the other day and I thought you may be interested.

If you watch the video, I'm looking forward to seeing what brought down the horses crossing the river. Knowing the program, common wisdom would say bull shark but I'm hoping for something else.

70 year old lands record halibut

December 20th 2010 00:39
Here's a story about a 70 year old angler from Germany who landed a halibut so big it can provide enough meat for almost 1000 fish dinners!

halibut
In the article, a German angler catches a fish in Iceland. Doesn't that show the international spirit of angling? Also, I think this is an example of real people. After all, it's not some "he-man" story where the guy and his mate pulled a monster fish onto the boat. The reality of needing the help of five crew members is mentioned in the article.

Back in the days of the Wild and Woolly West, before they had horses, Native Americans drove herds of buffalo over the edge of cliffs and then cleaned up the remains to make use of the meat, hide, bones, etc.

It turns out that ancient man did something similar when it came to fishing.

Hair rigs and knotless knots

April 30th 2009 02:02
Since carp are one of the most abundant fish in the world, I thought you may want to check out this video from Matt Hayes. He's illustrating a basic rig for carp fishing, a hair rig.

I've tried to research carp quite a bit and some authorities say to use braided line for a carp rig. Some like fluorocarbon. This video suggests mono so, that's what I'm using this season!
